Tolkien Reading Marathon 2016

It’s that time of year again – hooray! – when I curl up against the night with Tolkien’s tales of a world in its autumn: The Silmarillion, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

I’m particularly looking forward to it this time, although I have no idea why that might be. I think last year I was a bit too unsettled – by moving to my first job and living on my own for the first time – to enjoy a month-long immersion in Middle-earth properly, so maybe it’s that.

Anyway, I am looking forward to uncovering what the books have in store for me this time (and they do always have something new in store, which is one of the reasons I keep reading them). I may or may not write down some half-coherent thoughts at the end of the month (or month and a half). In fact, I suspect I shall be pressganged into writing something since my university Tolkien Society is making noises about a new edition of its magazine and the editor is my boyfriend so there’s no getting out of that one.

Never fear, dear reader – normal service will continue during the Marathon, as I’ve got a decent backlog of book reviews and a couple of Firefly-related reviews to write.

In the meantime – the road goes ever on…
